I was doing some (electronic) housekeeping and came across these blasts from the past. I painted these watercolors back in the day at the historic Bay Meadows Racetrack in San Mateo, CA. That was before the racetrack closed down in 2008 and was reborn as Bay Meadows, 'a charming urban village'.

I am so grateful for being included in the selection.

In includes 16 acres of beautifully preserved and maintained house and garden that is a wonder to see in any season. And now it has the added bonus of selling prints, puzzles and notecards with my floral art work in the Clock Tower Shop. I'm flattered to be included among their wonderful merchandise and thrilled knowing that all proceeds from the sale of my work in the shop will go towards maintaining Filoli.

I also want to add a special thanks to Donna Colson, Filoli Past President, for making this happen.

This painting of the Union Square Cable Car may have more personal memories than any other painting that I have done. While in high school I worked as a House boy at the St. Francis Hotel (building at left); worked at the Claremont Hotel as an elevator operator 2 blocks away; worked at the then Emporium selling toys; and I worked at the White House Department Store also two blocks away as a stock boy. Meanwhile my Mother worked in the stock room at the Emporium and my Father sold shoes also at the Emporium. I walked 6 blocks from our apartment on Hyde and Ellis Streets to work and every day was a memory. These personal memories will never pass and remain as important and meaningful times of my life.

Today Union Square serves as an ‘urban room’ in the heart of San Francisco and is a magnet that draws thousands of locals and visitors to the City to enjoy the energy of San Francisco with some of the finest hotels, boutique shopping and theater.

Union Square got its name from the pro-Union rallies held there on the eve of the Civil War. The monument itself is also a tribute to the sailors of the United States Navy (Wikipedia)

My first San Francisco Giant's Game (Go Giants!) was the hottest day of the year. I had just purchased new shoes. I had already walked form 23rd and Mission to (at the time), Candlestick Stadium. I walked from our coke bottle seats (seen in the watercolor painting) to where the painting was made (where the TV's are now). The painting was a rewarding outcome but the blister from my walk to the stadium was a bummer. I presented "Go Giants" to the San Francisco Giant's ownership hoping they would see value - and they actually kept it for three weeks and then came back to me, telling me that they would love to have it but contract complications made it too difficult - no so home run (deal) for me. The good news is that an avid San Francisco Giant's fan who worked for San Mateo County (The Board of Supervisors) purchased the original.

I have fond memories of the San Francisco Giants - Willie McCovey lived up the street from us in Burlingame and my kids were at Willy's home getting a signed photograph every time a relative came to visit us (poor Willy). And Willie Mays lived close to us in Hillsborough as well..

Candlestick (the Stick) is almost always cold and windy with the fog rolling in, and requiring blankets and jackets --- the memories I retain of the Giants at Candlestick Park are as crisp as today.
